Congregations

Live your faith with us.

“I came out of a situation where I wasn’t very happy and into this experience which was completely different. It changed my perspective. Taught me the value of life, I guess.” – Alexis, daughter of a graduate

JoCo IHN is and always will be a faith-based organization. We were founded by congregational leaders and concerned citizens in 2003. Since then, we have continued to nurture our congregational ties and form invaluable relationships with secular groups and individuals who share our love of empowering homeless families and single women. We are currently blessed to work with 7 host congregations and over 20 support congregations. If you’re interested in joining our network, don’t hesitate to get in touch with JoCo IHN Executive Director, Vicki L. Dercher at 913-345-2121, ext. 1001.

Host Congregations

Host congregations transform four or five classrooms into sleeping rooms. They provide overnight accommodations for single women and families for one week, every three or four months.

Congregations coordinate their members and unaffiliated, individual volunteers to host our guests during mealtimes, evening activities and overnight shifts. Volunteers set up bedrooms and bathrooms, prepare and serve meals, provide supplies, plan activities, drive the JoCo IHN van and more. We ask that all host congregations be equipped with separate sleeping areas for each family as well as a dining area, lounge, restrooms, adequate exits and a smoke alarm system.

Each congregation has a Primary Coordinator who works directly with our Executive Director, Vicki L. Dercher. JoCo IHN requires training for all of the congregation’s volunteers.
